Kurt & Brenda Warner talk love, faith & family on Access Hollywood

Looks like Dancing with the Stars is yet another platform where the Warners get to display what a real Christian family looks like. Hope you enjoy this interview as much as I did!

Three Heisman candidates known for their Christian faith

UPDATE: Big congratulations to Sam Bradford! It was the closest Heisman voting since 2001!

When voting ends and the votes are tallied the Heisman trophy is likely to end up in the hands of one of these three men: Tim Tebow of the Gators (who won last year), Sam Bradford of the Sooners (who will play the Gators in the championship), and Colt McCoy of the Longhorns (who unfortunately will be left out of the championship due to BCS weirdness). Each one has garnered a lot of respect on the field for their skills as quarterbacks and for leading their teams to some crucial victories.

All three are also known for their Christian faith. Sam Bradford is very involved with Oklahoma's Fellowship of Christian Athletes - as are many of his teammates. Here's an interview he did about his experience with sports and FCA.

In an article for The Christian Chronicle, Colt McCoy's Christian faith and time with FCA is discussed. His father states, "The decisions he [Colt] had made through his life, all the sacrifices to become a great football player, most of those are Christian sacrifices, too ... Socially, he was always making sure he was a strong, Christian influence on others.” (Couldn't find a video...)

Tim Tebow's faith should be well known since it is regularly mentioned that he spends each spring break going back to an orphanage in the Philippines and often speaks about his faith to groups in the states. Here's a video from ESPN on Tim's faith.

Other front-runners may also be strong Christians but I couldn't find a good article to quote. All three of these QBs, though, are great players and strong Christians and I can't wait to see what happens at the award ceremony.

Bob Tebow preaches at my church, introduced by Tim

This morning was a morning we have been looking forward to for a while Bob Tebow, missionary, preacher, and father of Heisman winner Tim Tebow preached in our morning service (and will also preach tonight). We had the unexpected surprise when Tim showed up and introduced his dad.

Tim said his dad was his greatest role model and taught the whole family to order their lives like this:
1) God
2) Family
3) Great Commission
4) Other (football)

After that, Bob Tebow came up to the pulpit and spoke on God's love for us. God knows all our horrible thoughts, actions and deeds and yet still loves us. Real love is "desiring the best for another, and acting upon it" (paraphrase - I'll post the real quote later). Our love for one another is always flawed but God's love for us is perfect and infinite - meaning it could not possibly get any bigger. He proved his love by sending Jesus to die for us.

Romans 5:8 - But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

This is the simple good news that can never be said too many times.

Bob told about a child he saw in the Philippines when he went to Manila to run errands. The boy was mostly naked, dirty, and sleeping on the street. He asked all around for information about him but no one knew or cared. He was so moved he was prepared to adopt this boy. However, when he woke him up and tried to talk to him, the boy got frightened, confused and ran away. Similarly, we face a God who offers us nothing but love and wants the best for us. Many of us choose to run away from Him rather than accept his gift.

You can learn more about his work at the Bob Tebow Evangelistic Association website.

Afterward, I was able to meet Tim Tebow. We tried, as a church, to not bother him too much but many of us said brief hellos. I thanked him for sharing his faith on the field and informed him (I'm sure he knew already) that the "Phil. 4:13" on his eye blacks is clearly visible during the broadcasts.

Combine all this with the worship music and it made for a wonderful, powerful service. I will post a link to the sermon once the podcast episode is ready. (Here's the MP3 Audio)
